About the place

Inishcoo House stands on its own on a 109-acre island off Burtonport in west Donegal, reached by the owners' boatman on a private RIB. The house has been partly rebuilt as an eco-house and has a large family room with kitchen, a library, a playroom, two wood-burning stoves and a south-facing terrace. Bedrooms include triples, double/twins, a single and a children's dorm with six mattresses. The listing headline says 8 bedrooms and the detail says 7 with the dorm counted separately, so we use 7; it gives sleeps 18, or 12 adults plus children.

There are four sandy beaches on the island, a freshwater lake and walks across the heather, and kayaks, table tennis and golf clubs are provided. The owners also pitch it for team-building events. A three-night weekend was listed at €2,250, but prices exclude 13.5% VAT, and cleaning, linen and a charge for each guest over 12 are extra.
